Providing personalised education and therapeutic support in the heart of the East Sussex countryside.
Nestled in the scenic East Sussex countryside, Headstart School offers a unique and nurturing educational environment for children and young people with autism and complex needs. Established in 1999, the school operates across two rural sites, each featuring its own mini-farm, animal care areas, and horticultural spaces, creating a therapeutic and engaging setting that supports both academic and personal development.
At Headstart, we believe every child deserves the chance to flourish, academically, socially, and emotionally. Our approach combines compassion with innovation, ensuring that pupils are supported to discover their strengths and achieve their full potential.
Headstart School caters to pupils aged 5 to 16, with post-16 courses available up to age 21. The school is known for its integrated therapies, personalised learning programmes, and a strong emphasis on outdoor and vocational education. With a curriculum tailored to individual needs, pupils are encouraged to grow in confidence, independence, and life skills through a blend of academic study, hands-on experiences, and therapeutic support.
